WHAT WE CARRY
Drinking and Addiction
One person remembers pouring a drink. Another remembers listening for the front door. Someone else remembers the morning they decided to ask for help.
Drinking and addiction can touch people in different ways. Some are trying to change their own lives. Some love someone who is struggling. Some are learning what trust looks like after a hard season.
No one story can speak for all of them. Change may happen slowly, and people may disagree about what happened or what comes next.
Here, people can tell their own story without being reduced to the hardest part of it.
A family may remember the same evening in different ways. One person remembers an argument. Another remembers cleaning up afterward. Someone else remembers a quiet apology the next morning. None of those memories has to cancel out the others.
For a person trying to change, an ordinary day can matter. Keeping an appointment, making a call, or telling the truth about a setback may be part of their story. For someone close to them, deciding what they can live with is part of a different story.
